In honor of SHINee’s 6th anniversary, I thought I’d do a post on my all-time favorite songs from my all-time favorite group. SHINee was one of the first groups I ever got really into (*cough*obsessedwith*cough*) and as the years go by they continue to amaze me. Even in the K-pop world, you do not come across a group that has the singing skills, dancing abilities, and passion that SHINee does. So here’s a list of my Top 10 SHINee songs (in no particular order because that would be too hard):
The 5 Chart Toppers
“누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay)”
This song is almost pure perfection in my eyes. The melody and beat, the vocals, all make for such a smooth track. The music video showcases some adorable baby SHINee and Taemin’s unfortunate bowl cut (still love you).
“Ring Ding Dong”
This song may be a hot mess at times but it holds a special place in my heart. It’s hella catchy and was, along with “Lucifer,” the song I used to get my brother to like SHINee. He actually memorized the main dance and I don’t think I’ve ever been so proud.
“Sherlock•셜록 (Clue + Note)”
I am in love with the dance for this song; there are so many different and interesting elements. It showcases how SHINee takes complex choreography and executes it with ease and precision. The mixing of two different tracks was something new, and I think they pulled it off pretty well with “Sherlock.” It’s always a pleasure to listen to or watch.
This music video is definitely one of my favorites. It’s like SM is taking baby steps away from its box-style videos, and it is working very well (keep doing it!). I love the dreamy quality, all of the bright, candy colors, and the use of the microphone stands in the choreography. The song is happy and light and managed to fit SHINee’s style perfectly. I listened to this track on repeat for a long time.
The mega-hit from SHINee that caught my attention in a big way. I was so mesmerized by this song and video; it was completely different from anything I had ever seen (the style! the haircuts! the dancing!). Everything about it was eye-catching and addicting. It still remains one of my all-time favorite K-pop songs.
The 5 B-Sides
“Forever or Never”
This one might be surprising as it was one of the added tracks with the repackaged AMIGO album, which is not exactly a fan favorite. Yet I listened to this song and for some reason, I was hooked. It’s not your typical calculated-to-please pop song, and its differences make it an interesting and enjoyable listen.
The sweet noona-loving SHINee takes another step into more mature sounds with “Electric Heart.” Full of electronic sounds and incredibly smooth voices, this song is most often described as “steamy.” Listen and you’ll see why.
This song is just pure lighthearted fun. It’s always great to see the SHINee members jumping around and playing while singing this song during concerts and live performances.
I absolutely loved the dark and supernatural tones to the songs included on Why So Serious? – The Misconceptions of Me. “Evil” has an eerie and haunting sound that I haven’t heard on many other K-pop releases.
I cannot tell you how much I wished this song had been promoted more. “Everybody” was good, but also your standard title track. “Symptoms” is way more dynamic musically and vocally. For every live performance, the way they sing with such emotion blows me away. This song has a permanent place on my favorites list.
